december 5.the music
One of my favorite things about this time of year is the music. I know that some of it can be annoying (barking dogs singing Jingle Bells) but there is so much of it that is GREAT!
A favorite artist of mine is Sarah McLachlan and she released her first holiday cd this year - WINTERSONG. "A Song for a Winter's Night" is my favorite on the album (this song was released quite a few years ago on a soundtrack which I was lucky enough to catch wind of) - I can close my eyes and listen to that song over and over again. Her voice is so angelic and haunting at the same time - I know that sounds strange but it is one of the most peaceful things I have ever heard.
And a VERY CLOSE SECOND would be "What are you doing New Year's Eve?" by Ella Fitzgerald. I really wish that Sticky and I could dance to this song at our wedding but it would probably be a little odd in February. Nonetheless, what a gorgeous love song sung by one of the most gifted songstress ever! If you have never listened to this song (or the one above) you should surf on over to iTunes immediately and check them out. I guess that neither one of them are officially about Christmas but they do fit the feeling for this time of year and they never become annoying!
As far as traditional songs for this time of year I would have to go with "O Holy Night." With the right person singing that song will give me goosebumps EVERY SINGLE TIME! It is just an unbelievably beautiful song that truly embraces Christmas and why it is such a special time of year!
So put on some good Christmas tunes and ENJOY!!

I had no idea Sarah MacLachlan had a Christmas CD. I should check it out. It's funny that you mention "A Song For A Winter's Night," too. That has always been one of my favorites! We usually have it playing during Christmas. It's on the Miracle On 34th Street Soundtrack.
